EPISODE 4 WHEN I STARTED TO NOTICE SOME PROBLEMS
AFTER CHEMICALLY relaxing my hair I noticed that my length haven’t change that much. And the first thing that bothered me was that after two months the new hair were hard and difficult to comb compared to the rest.
I WAS STUPID enough to BELIEVE that my hair will grow straight (maybe it was due to my age). There were also the burns on the scalp if I let the product more than the time required and even if I followed the instructions, even if I put more Vaseline to protect my scalp before the relaxer, MY HAIR WERE WEAK but I didn’t want to relaxed every two months. I started to buy A lot of products, all sort of “MIRACLE PRODUCTS”, all my money was spend on it. The only positive thing was that my hair didn’t break A LOT because I was doing so much treatments to prevent it. BUT I WANTED TO GET OUT OF THIS BAD DEAL so I decided to stop relaxing after all I will use my mum’s method With a good cream and the thread.
But my room mate at university advised me To never stop unless I cut everything down and start again. BUT I didn’t want To cut my hair to look like a boy, plus short hair will never suits me and I was absolutely against waves even today, in fact never wore one in my all life. IT can be strange but for me it is worst than relaxing. I don’t know if it is the fakeness or a childhood memory when I spent two months in a children’s hospital for a procedure on my right leg (I was 9 at that time), some of the kids had cancer and had lost all their hair due to the chemotherapy so they had to wear waves. EVEN TODAY for me it is the only valuable reason except for a disguise.
She also explain to me that the border between the relaxed and the new natural hair was very thin and fragile that is why it cut so easily.
SO I DECIDE TO CONTINUE despite the fact that I felt trapped.
THIS IS NOT ME IN THIS PICTURES I ONLY USED THEM FOR ILLUSTRATIONS.
NEXT EPISODE 5 WHO IS GILLETTE LEWATT ?
Many of us felt trapped in a cycle of relaxing. I was fortunate never to suffer hair loss as an adult -- I did as a child when my mother had a neighbor (who was a beautician) apply my first relaxer. But when I was taking care of it myself, I never had issues, except that it never seemed to grow past my shoulders. And then towards the end, I noticed some strange thinning in the front of my head and hardness (crunchiness) at my edges. Even with all of that, it still took me a year to finally summon the courage I needed to break the cycle of relaxing and finally try to grow it out. Now, I am so happy.
RépondreSupprimerI am looking forward to Episode 5.
By the way, I feel the very same way about weaves. I have never worn one either.
I agree totally with this post! I went thru the whole relaxed period. Luckily my hair is healthy and strong enough to withstand it. It has been a year since a relaxer and my hair is growing nicely. I chopped it all off last december to start over and its already back to shoulder length. Maybe 1 day I will do a hair post.
